If you were buying a watch, would you buy a steel band watch or leather band watch?

This is pretty much a poll but whats your preference? I'll choose the best answer right away if you give me just a tad more feedback on why. thanks a lot!

Being a girl, I would prefer steel or metallic band over leather, just because it looks more expensive and classy, and is easier to match with more outfits. Same thing for a guy- a metal band will always get my pick.

Besides steel band, leather band is watch band’s another main branch. It not only seems like elegant and fashional, but also can make you feel warm and comfortable in the cold winter when you wearing it. But still, there is a big problem for many watch fans —the maintenance of leather band is so difficult. Well, as the following part of my last post Watch Care Procedures -Steel Band Care, today I will go on telling you some tips for how to maintain leather band to help prolong your leather bands’ service life, after all, costs hundreds of dollars, leather band never comes cheap.

1.Wow…What is this smell?

Fine making, elegant style, leather band has been always popular with lots of watch fans. As to appearance’s pretty, in addition to watch itself must looks good, matching a proper band would be adding flowers to brocade, makes you appear to be more temperamental. But nothing exists without disadvantages, the peculiar smell leather band gives out is the biggest problem for watch owners. When leather band begin giving out strange smell, use a toothbrush soak  in soapsuds, brush the dirty part quickly, then use a piece of wet cloth clean it up. In order to avoid soapsuds permeating into leather, the whole brushing process proferably kept in 20 seconds. In addition, you also can coat a little leather oil on leather band after brushing, because leather oil has protective effect on leather, can make the whole maintenance more completed.

2.Oops…Leather band is getting harder than stone.

After wore a long time, in addition to giving out peculiar smell, leather band will get another common symptoms —hardening. Often used in damp environment will accelerates leather band’s hardening rate. Sweat can also erode the leather, makes band out of shape, hardening or even broken, causing band lost or dropped accidently. So besides the daily maintenance, it’s necessary to avoid twisting leather band when it’s getting hardening, and also, change the band in proper time is essential, too. Spend little money in exchange for beautiful and pleasant appearance, and also can help you avoid those unnecessary losses, kill two birds with one stone, why not?

Our Exhortations:

1. Leather band’s most attractive feature is its soft and comfortable texture, well, the problem along with it —not easy to maintain is also very serious. My suggestion is, only in winter it’s suitable to wear the leather band all day long, in summer or after exercise, people easy to sweating, in this condition, if there is no need, you’d better not to wear leather band. If you really like leather band and want to wear it anyway, do remember wear it after wipe your sweat, because only do this can extend the service life of your leather band.

2. Leather band can be made from lots of material, such as crocodile, lizard skin, ostrich, shark skin and calfskin, etc., regardless of what kind of materials it’s made from, long time wearing will makes it give out peculiar smell, keep the band in dry condition and clean it regularly is the one and only way. If leather band getting wet, you should wipe the water away and day it immediately, if gets dust or dirt on it, use a piece of cloth clean it as soon as possible(if cloth is wet, after cleaning, you should dry band also). Moreover, there is one thing more you should pay attention to, that is, after long time contact with sunshine, leather band will deteriorate, so, watch out.

3. Do not wear a leather band watch all the time, the ideal condition is getting two watches change regularly. Leather needs breath, ventilated environment can prolong its service life. Prepare more than one leather band not only can reduce the risk of man-made destroy, but also can give enough time to leather band to have rest. Furthermore, leather band watch’s wearing itself is a process of continuous pull and push, so if you do not use it every day, it will naturally accompany with you for longer time.

Legend of the Moon Watch：omega Speedmaster (i)

When you look up to the sky by chance and see the moon, what will you think of? A bosom friend who you have not met for a long time, or attractive and familiar scenes of hometown? Or maybe you will call to remembrance a childhood dream of being a spaceman? Or maybe you have been a very successful man with a moon phase watch on the wrist where collects your loving moon? Or maybe you will think that it is good to wear a watch which had been to the moon and participated in spacewalk?

Yes! A moon watch!

Omega Speedmaster is the first and only watch ever to have been to the Moon. I believe that most watch lovers have known this, since it is how Omega advertised this edition. However, if you probe the space exploration competition between USA and Russia in 1960’s and 1970’s, more questions, puzzles and discussions will be found behind the legend, making Speedmaster more attractive.

Omega was created in 1848 by Louis Brandt, and it is said that this name was suggested by brothers Btandt’s friend Henry Rikckel, and was made as a name for Omega products for the first time in 1894. At present, Omega watches mainly include Seamaster of 1948, Constellation of 1952, Deville of 1967, Dynamic of 1968 and Speedmaster, which is our subject of today. Speedmaster Omega was created in 1957 as sports chronograph, with the idea of being a strong and persistent watch with clear makers and easy to read. The rigid case made of steel makes the watch to be water resistant to 60m. Since part of the design is from Seamaster, therefore the pattern of hippocampi is also used in Speedmaster. The soft steel protects the movement from the effect of magnetic force, ensuring the stability and persistence of the watch, the hour hand of wide arrow shape and tachymere on the bezel make the time is easy to read.

Speedmaster of first generation was created in 1957, and the Reference code is CK2915. Soon Omega presented the changed edition of Speedmaster in 1959, and it did not use wide narrow shape hour hand but narrow and long arrow shape, the diameter was also changed from 39mm to 40mm because of the O-ring Gasket being added to the timing button. Since then and before 1966, Speedmaster did not change a lot but only to make a few changes on the hands and the dial.

Four years after Speedmaster coming out, the space competition began. On 12th, April of 1961, Russians had their first manned space flight, and spaceman Yuri Gagarin became the first man who entered the orbital of space and earth. It is said that what Yuri Gagarin wore was Sturmanskije Rodina watch made by Russia (Although watches made by Russia were quite stable, persistent and accurate, it is said that Russian spacemen changed to wear Speedmaster later. And in the space station project run by USA and Russia, Speedmaster was appointed as chronograph. Omega used to launch a limited edition of 250 pieces for this, with a sign of Apollo-Soyuz Mission at 12 o’clock position on the dial.)

After that, USA strove with Russia, president John F. Kennedy swore to probe the space and expressed the determination of landing on the moon. The USA space center NASA also started a string of space missions. In the early Project Mercury run by USA, it was not limited that if the spacemen had to wear a watch during the mission or not, so no problems arising from the appointed chronograph. On 24th, May of 1962, USA spaceman Scott Carpenter wore a watch of Breiting Navitimer Cosmonaut and drove spacecraft to enter the outer space orbital. According to the record, this is the first Swiss watch which had been to outer Space. Before Scott Carpenter, there were three Americans who entered the outer space. It is known that John Glenn wore no watch with him, as for Alan Sheppard and Virgil(Gus)Grissom, they had passed away before someone began to probe this thing.

It was in 1962 that NASA started to consider choosing a watch seriously for spacemen in projects Gemini and Apollo. It is pointed that the purchase men went to the watch shop of Corrigan in the downtown of Houston directly and bought six chronographs (not special made but could be bought by everyone) from different companies (Omega, Rolex and Longines) and then back to the space center to have strict tests. The watch was being tested in the vacuum of simulated outer space, including variations in temperature ranging from -18°C to +93°C, accelerated centrifugal force of 12G, furious shaking and bumping tests. Of course water proof, anti magnetic and shockproof tests were also needed. Eventually, Omega Speedmaster stood out.

On 3rd, October of 1962, Wally Schirra first wore Speedmaster and drove spacecraft of Sigma 7 into the earth orbital. On 15th, May of 1963, Gordon Cooper drove Faith 7 into the earth orbital; meanwhile he wore Speedmaster Acutron Astronaut (the first entering outer space American watch) for a test. Later Cooper summarized all the opinions from spacemen in Mercury Project, and chose Speedmaster as the appointed chronograph.

On 21st, Sep of 1964, Director of Flight Crew Operations Donald “Deck†Slayton formally issued a certificate to appoint Omega Speedmaster as the chronograph for USA space flight, and started to distribute Speedmaster to spacemen as a part of standard outfit in Gemini 3 and Apollo after 1965.

On 18th, March of 1965, Russian spaceman Alexei Leonov had the first spacewalk, but he did not wear a watch outside his space suit. It is said that inside his space suit, he should have worn a watch made by Russia just as Yuri Gagarin, but nobody could prove that. But what is interesting is that later Alexei Leonov also participated in Apollo-Soyuz Test Flight, and he wore Speedmaster just as other US spacemen did. On 4th, June of the same year, the US spaceman Edward Higgins White, II took Genini to have USA’s first spacewalk, and he wore a Speedmaster with Vecro watch band on the sleeve of space suit, so Speedmaster was certainly the first watch which exposed in the severe environment of outer space. With the photo of Edward H. White, II’s spacewalk becoming the cover of Life Magzine, Speedmaster suddenly attracted watch lovers from all over the world. What is interesting is that Omega did not know what NASA did about the watch until Edward White’s spacewalk were shown to everybody and got surprised just as others did.

Edward White still wore this Speedmaster(Reference ST 105.003), until when he was on a training for Apollo 1 and unfortunately died in a fire accident together with his colleagues Gus Grisson and Roger Chaffee. But the strong Speedmaster survived from the fire, and was given to Edward White’s wife as memorial, later it was passed on to Edward White’s son Edward H. White, III. After Edward H. White, III wore this watch for many years; it was locked into the steel safe and has been kept until today.

Then the greatest adventure and scientific achievement in human history came, which was Apollo 11 spacecraft landed on the moon on 21st, July of 1969. As we all know, when Neil Armstrong stepped out of spacecraft he said “It’s one small step of me but a great step of man.â€, which made thousands of TV audience so impressive. But not as everybody imagined, the first one who wore Speedmaster and stepped on the moon and made Speedmaster the first and only watch ever worn on the Moon was not Neil Armstrong, but his fellow Edwin(Buzz)Aldrin who did that just after him. Armstrong had left his inside the lunar module as a precaution after an in-cabin timer had malfunctioned. Aldrin was wearing it more exactly on his forearm, strapped with Velcro around the sleeve of his bulky space suit, so this was the first Speedmaster landed on the moon. But it is a pity that this Speedmaster was stolen on the way to Smithsonian Institue for displaying, and it had never been seen since then.

I Must Get Knock of Designer Watches Today

Sitting in the lush field, sunshine all over us, I still remember those golden days of yesteryears. Going back to the past I can feel as if it was just today. I could see myself back there in the past as if it was just now. This is the time I had been waiting for. For a long period of time I have been sweating it our and studying like one possessed. I was extremely tensed up about my exams and its results. Though I have never been bad throughout my academic career, this time I was a bit nervous. You see, I had dated for the first time in my life and was a bit shy when it came to meeting girls.

This beautiful doll had helped me to shed my nervousness and today we were one of the most admired couples in high school. However, it was high time that we became a bit serious in our relationship and decided that we should introduce each other to our respective family. I had decided to gift her with any one of the numerous knock off designer watches that were available on the net. I just checked out some sites that had wholesale knock off watch and was bowled over by their sheer beauty and the range of their collection. There were knock off Rolex watch and knock off Tag Heuer watch.

There was also a Movado watch knock off but what held my interest was one of the latest ladies knock off Rolex watch. This one would suit my dear perfectly. To compliment them I had also decided to gift her a Rolex Daytona watch band knock of too. I could imagine her squealing with delight when she would receive the same. I know that these knock off designer watches are built to last and that they might be fakes, but they contain the best mechanism in the world. They might have false jewels on their dials, but why should that bother me. I'd present her with real jewelries in the form of bracelets and brooches.

As far as watches are concerned, it just had to be knock off designer watches. Time passes by so quickly and a number of years have passed since we got married. The knock off designer watches that I had purchased for her at that time is still working perfectly. It may look a bit out of fashion but that does not cause any problems, for she still loves them knock off designer watches as much as she did the day I had gifted them to her. Many people are afraid of going in for these imitation watches, but these knock off designer watches are the best form of flattery to the real ones. If you do not believe me, ask the countless number of young people who sport such watches lovingly on their wrist and they will confirm in the positive.

Let s Have Fun of Watch DIY

Everything needs a change from time to time even if just for freshness.Just pick my home furniture as an example, beds and tables in my house will be exchanged every 7 or 8 years.

Low-end watches have a good point here,that is you can transform it as you like. In my opinion, the most easiest way to DIY watch is to change the way to wear watches. Nothing is impossible. There is no a saying that watch can not be worn without  watch bands. You can sew it into a bag , use it as pendent of necklace …….

Recently, I have a DIY on my watch-sew a quartz watch into a wirstband(as you can see in the picture below).Wristband can be viewed as sport or outdoor leisure goods and be worn in sports generally. It is elastic,making it able to  stick to the wrist.Also, it is quite sweat-absorbent.Hence,I enjoy wearing it going for an outing at weekend.

This DIY process goes as follow: first use a scissors to cut off the two straps ,only leaving a appropriate length.Then make sewing holes with an awl.Third sew the watch to the wristband with solid fine line. However, make sure you sew it on the center which will entitle the watch a balanced sense visually.The picture below shows the instrument I used at the DIY process.

Creativity without limits. DIY is fun and easy. Just take a little time and simple action ,you can have such DIY fun in your daily life as well.
