Rolex Datejust : The Datejust models were introduced with a coin edge bezel, which later were replaced by a new fluted bezel along with a larger crown. In the mid-50's, Rolex

introduced the Datejust (model 6605) with the cyclops, or the magnifying bubble that is placed over the date on the watch's crystal. In 1956, Rolex released a Datejust model called the

"Thunderbird" (model 1625). This watch featured a Turn-O-Graph gold Bezel.

Originally, Rolex offered the Datejust in 18kt yellow gold and after seeing much success, they were offered in stainless steel, white gold, or platinum. By 1962 the two-tone Datejust

models were in circulation. Also around this time, the Datejusts were offered with an option of a Jubilee bracelet, an Oyster bracelet, or a leather strap. Additionally, Rolex replaced the

original four-digit case reference number with a five digit number. Around this time, Rolex also introduced the Oyster date which is very similar to the Datejust, the only difference being

2mm smaller. By then, the Datejust offered the "midsize" which is 80% the size of the original.

Rolex Submariner: In 1953 Rolex underwent stringent experiments, testing the Submariner prototype in deep waters to a depth of 3,150 meters (10,336 ft). The watch withstood the

hardest tests, having survived sub-zero temperatures, as well as the wear and tear of expeditions. Rolex launched the Submariner (model 6204) at the Basel Fair in 1954 although it is

believed that it was actually released in late 1953 and was based on the Rolex Explorer. On the contrary, the name "Submariner" was not officially patented until around 1960. When

introduced, the Submariner was powered by the A296 movement but was then replaced with the 1030 movement and Mercedes hands, which is more elongated than the modern day

version. In 1955, model 6538 replaced 6204, and the 6205 by 6536 respectively. Model 6536 then became 6536/1, featuring a chronometer version of the 1030 movement. New

Submariner models featured a new scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and an upgraded depth rating of 1,000 feet.

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona: Rolex were forerunners in developing the Oyster and Perpetual. Thus, Rolex was not well known for pioneering chronographs. However the success of the

Cosmograph impelled Rolex to be in the position of being the ultimate "sportsman's" watch. These watches soon adopted the name "Daytona" after being sought out by some of the

biggest names in auto racing in one of the biggest racing communities of Daytona Beach, Florida. In the beginning, the Daytona's were available in two dials, either in black with silver

registers or cream white with black registers. Soon, these dials adopted the name "Paul Newman" after he was seen wearing it in the movie "Winning".

Rolex Day-Date : The Basel fair, the new Day-Date model (model 6511) had a window at the 12 position spelling out the day of the week and the numbered date was shown at the 3

position. Initially introduced as a niche model, The first model (6511) lasted just over a year before it was replaced by 6611. This model featured the new and improved caliber 1055

movement with its free sprung Micro-Stella balance and was the first to be labeled "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified". This statement guaranteed the watch to remain within +

3.0 seconds per day. With very little design changes over the years, the first modification to the Day-Date was the addition of the "hack" feature in 1972. This allowed the second hand

to be stopped dead while the winding stem was completely pulled out, allowing the time to be synchronized with an accurate source. The Day-Date was available in 18kg gold or

platinum.

Similar to the Datejust model, the introduction of the Quick-set feature also accompanied other modifications for the Day-Date. The introduction of the sapphire crystal not only gave the

watch a much slimmer and better appearance, it also added to the durability and scratch resistance of the watch. The early Day-Date models were waterproof to165 feet (50 meters)

while the current model is safe at depths of up to 100 meters. Another improvement came in 1990 when the "Double Quick-Set" feature was introduced. Model 18238 allowed both the

date and day to be quickly set via the winding stem. Around the same time, Rolex had increasingly expanded their "Crown Collection" to feature a cast of precious stones though they

were available with diamond bezels from their inception.

The basic care and maintenance program for Rolex watches includes the following steps:--

1. Wear Your Rolex Regularly
Regular wear and use of your Rolex will keep the watch in perfect running condition. By doing so, you can ensure a constant flow of lubricants in the movement. If not used on a regular basis, these lubricants may harden, causing friction within the movement. Eventually, this friction may damage the functioning of the movement. If you do not wear your Rolex regularly, make sure to wind it at least once a week. This will keep the watch gears moving, thus preventing the lubricants from hardening.

2. Cleaning Your Rolex
Like any other work of intricate artistry and technology, a Rolex requires occasional cleaning and upkeep. There are many places on the watch where dirt, body oils and other greasy particles accumulate, such as between the links on the bracelet, the area joining the case and the bezel, and around the Cyclops lens. On repeated use, you will see clearly such dirt particles on your Rolex. When such particles are seen, the watch will require a thorough cleaning as described below:

# Before you start cleaning, make sure the winding crown is tightly screwed onto the case.
# Since you will be using your hands to clean your watch, washing them thoroughly with soap or hand wash so you avoid transferring any dirt or grease.
# Use lukewarm water to rinse off your watch.
# Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and ammonia- free mild soap.
# Apply this soapy water all over your watch using your hands.
# Now, gently scrub the watch to clean it of all dirt particles. Your old toothbrush can be used as an ideal scrub for this purpose. During scrubbing, submerge the watch and the toothbrush into the soapy water at short intervals.
# Once you are confident that the Rolex has been cleaned, rinse the watch with lukewarm water.
# Using a clean and soft cotton cloth, gently pat the watch until dried.
# Since your cloth may not reach the links on the bracelet, you need to use a blower or hair dryer to remove the excess water from the inner surface of the links.
# To make your Rolex watch completely dry, you can also use a dry towel to remove any remaining moisture.

3. Removing Scratches from the Bracelet of Your Rolex Watch
The bracelet of your Rolex needs special care, as it is prone to scratches. This is especially true of the Oyster bracelet which features polished center links. By polishing the bracelet once every few months, you can retain the brand new look of your Rolex forever. You easily can remove the scratches from the polished center links with little effort and time expended. All you need is a good quality polishing cloth which can be picked from products designed for removing scratches from polished stainless steel and gold surfaces. Such a cloth comes soaked in a special liquid meant for polishing. These polishing cloths are inexpensive and can be used multiple times. When using the polishing cloth on the surface of your bracelet, there are several things you should keep in mind, including —

* Make sure you use the cloth only on the polished surface of your bracelet. If you use it on the non-polished surface, it will damage the brushed finish.
* One way to avoid this error is to use a Q-Tip. You can wrap the cloth around its head and comfortably restrict its movement to the polished surface.
* Do not exert too much pressure while polishing because only a moderate amount of pressure is needed.
* Avoid using circular or cross strokes while polishing. Instead, try to follow the flow of the metal. In other words, go with the grain of the surface and not against the grain.
* A minute of polishing usually is enough to remove the fine scratches that appear like hairlines. You may need to devote more time, however, if the scratches are deeper or more prominent.
* Finally, avoid polishing surfaces that have no scratches. You will end up removing a fine layer of metal from the surface by way of polishing because the surface has not suffered any indentation in the form of a scratch. Less is more.

4. Winding Your Rolex
Rolex watches (except Oysterquartz) are perpetual which means they are self winding. On an average, Rolex watches have a power reserve of 48 hours. If not wound after 48 hours, your Rolex will stop running and appear dead. It is not a major issue, however, because you can manually wind your watch. Simply unscrew the crown to position 2 and wind it about 30 to 40 times and once you have done this, screw the crown back down. There are a few points that you should take into account while winding your watch. They include —

* Winding your Rolex while wearing it on your wrist should be avoided.
* If found dead or in a non-functioning mode, do not shake your watch.
* Even after you have wound it, do not shake the watch if it does not start working. Simply, rotate your wrist gently, which will allow the watch to rotate as well and may give the rotor inside the “kick start” it needs.
* If still the watch does not start, rather than shaking and possibly damaging your Rolex, simply put the watch aside and allow it to start on its own.
* Never worry about over-winding your watch as every Rolex has a built-in protection mechanism, which does not allow the movement to be over wound.

5. Waterproof Rolex
Most of the Rolex watches come with a tested and guaranteed depth rating of 330 feet. This waterproof nature means that not only can you take a shower wearing your watch, but you also can swim with it. Avoid diving with diving equipment, however, when wearing your watch, because they are not made for deep water. For such aquatic situations, Rolex has created the Submariner and the Sea-Dweller models. When you are diving while wearing these models, however, make sure that the winding crown is tightly screwed down onto the case. Inside the tank, a vacuum air-pressure is created to test the watch at its guaranteed depth. A similar test is also conducted during the making of Rolex watches at their premises. As a direct consequence, once you service your Rolex at a Rolex Service Center, you can be assured of receiving the same quality in your watch as a brand new Rolex exhibits. After the watch passes the pressure proof test, it is installed with the movement, re-lubricated and tested for accuracy in timekeeping. If it shows any minor deviations, a special Rolex device called the “Microstella Tool” is used to make micro adjustments to correct those deviations. Once this test is also cleared, the watch is prepared for a final pressure proof test in the Mariotte meter vacuum tank.

6. Final Quality Check by an Expert: Before handing over the watch to the customer, an expert technician makes a final quality inspection to ensure that the watch is free of every possible error, both in appearance and in operation.

Every Rolex Service Center charges overhauling or servicing fees from the customer if the servicing of the watch does not fall in the warranty period. Once the servicing is done and the payment received, they issue a one-year warranty on the serviced Rolex. This warranty is accepted at every Rolex Service Center located across the globe. It is not recommended to go for the complete overhaul every time you take your watch to a service center. Often, the condition of your watch only requires partial servicing in the form of replacement of crystal, stem, crown or dial refinishing.

The name Rolex is defined as a luxury watch that shows the class, success & perfection of the man or woman wearing it. It’s an obsession among high personality to own a precious

Rolex Datejust : The Datejust models were introduced with a coin edge bezel, which later were replaced by a new fluted bezel along with a larger crown. In the mid-50's, Rolex

introduced the Datejust (model 6605) with the cyclops, or the magnifying bubble that is placed over the date on the watch's crystal. In 1956, Rolex released a Datejust model called the

"Thunderbird" (model 1625). This watch featured a Turn-O-Graph gold Bezel.

Originally, Rolex offered the Datejust in 18kt yellow gold and after seeing much success, they were offered in stainless steel, white gold, or platinum. By 1962 the two-tone Datejust

models were in circulation. Also around this time, the Datejusts were offered with an option of a Jubilee bracelet, an Oyster bracelet, or a leather strap. Additionally, Rolex replaced the

original four-digit case reference number with a five digit number. Around this time, Rolex also introduced the Oyster date which is very similar to the Datejust, the only difference being

2mm smaller. By then, the Datejust offered the "midsize" which is 80% the size of the original.

Rolex Submariner: In 1953 Rolex underwent stringent experiments, testing the Submariner prototype in deep waters to a depth of 3,150 meters (10,336 ft). The watch withstood the

hardest tests, having survived sub-zero temperatures, as well as the wear and tear of expeditions. Rolex launched the Submariner (model 6204) at the Basel Fair in 1954 although it is

believed that it was actually released in late 1953 and was based on the Rolex Explorer. On the contrary, the name "Submariner" was not officially patented until around 1960. When

introduced, the Submariner was powered by the A296 movement but was then replaced with the 1030 movement and Mercedes hands, which is more elongated than the modern day

version. In 1955, model 6538 replaced 6204, and the 6205 by 6536 respectively. Model 6536 then became 6536/1, featuring a chronometer version of the 1030 movement. New

Submariner models featured a new scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and an upgraded depth rating of 1,000 feet.

Rolex Cosmograph Daytona: Rolex were forerunners in developing the Oyster and Perpetual. Thus, Rolex was not well known for pioneering chronographs. However the success of the

Cosmograph impelled Rolex to be in the position of being the ultimate "sportsman's" watch. These watches soon adopted the name "Daytona" after being sought out by some of the

biggest names in auto racing in one of the biggest racing communities of Daytona Beach, Florida. In the beginning, the Daytona's were available in two dials, either in black with silver

registers or cream white with black registers. Soon, these dials adopted the name "Paul Newman" after he was seen wearing it in the movie "Winning".

Rolex Day-Date : The Basel fair, the new Day-Date model (model 6511) had a window at the 12 position spelling out the day of the week and the numbered date was shown at the 3

position. Initially introduced as a niche model, The first model (6511) lasted just over a year before it was replaced by 6611. This model featured the new and improved caliber 1055

movement with its free sprung Micro-Stella balance and was the first to be labeled "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified". This statement guaranteed the watch to remain within +

3.0 seconds per day. With very little design changes over the years, the first modification to the Day-Date was the addition of the "hack" feature in 1972. This allowed the second hand

to be stopped dead while the winding stem was completely pulled out, allowing the time to be synchronized with an accurate source. The Day-Date was available in 18kg gold or

platinum.

Similar to the Datejust model, the introduction of the Quick-set feature also accompanied other modifications for the Day-Date. The introduction of the sapphire crystal not only gave the

watch a much slimmer and better appearance, it also added to the durability and scratch resistance of the watch. The early Day-Date models were waterproof to165 feet (50 meters)

while the current model is safe at depths of up to 100 meters. Another improvement came in 1990 when the "Double Quick-Set" feature was introduced. Model 18238 allowed both the

date and day to be quickly set via the winding stem. Around the same time, Rolex had increasingly expanded their "Crown Collection" to feature a cast of precious stones though they

were available with diamond bezels from their inception.

Is Tag Heuer considered a good brand for watches?

If it is, why is their "Submariner" (Aquaracer) like less than a 1/3 of the price of Rolex?

generally speaking, it's considered as a low class brand. top brands are usually referred to Patek Philippe, Audermars Piguet, A.Lange, Bregeut, etc. mid class: Rolex, Breitling, Cartier, Omega, etc. low class: TAG, Oris, Longines, Seiko, etc.

Aquaracer is so much cheaper because the make quality is definitely much lower, and most parts are cheaper as well. but after joining LVMH, the group is trying to increase the brand image and raise it to a higher class. personally i think it's getting more and more overpriced.

In Mens Wearhouse could i just rent the vest and tie?

My prom is coming up. I was wondering if I could just buy the tuxedo without the vest and tie and rent the vest and tie every year to match the dress of my date?

if you plan on attending more than 2 events requiring formal attire- it is worth investing in a tuxedo - and getting a really good fit- problem with rented are getting the fit right.
if you are still growing then a rented tux makes more sense as it might not fit you for long after you purchase it.
if you plan on matching vest, cummerbund or tie with your dates dress be careful as sometimes the match isn't perfect and can misfire and clash, rather than compliment. traditional black tux and accessories always work, no matter what color your date wears. please choose a bow tie - a straight tie and tux don't belong together imo.
