How do I refasten the strap of leather slip on slippers?

I had edema when I bought them. Now that edema is gone and my foot is back to its original size, my foot is floating in the brand new expensive leather slip on slippers. I would hate to throw them away.
Any suggestions to tighten the leather are welcome.
